Last updated: 6/27/2026
This page is maintained by AgoraLogix LLC to explain how we collect, use, and share personal data in the AgoraChess service.
1. Who we are
AgoraChess is operated by AgoraLogix LLC ("AgoraLogix", "we", "us"). For purposes of data protection law, AgoraLogix LLC is the data controller for personal data processed through the Service.
2. Personal data we collect
- Account data — email address, username, display name, and authentication identifiers.
- Game data — your games, moves, chat messages, ratings, lesson progress, and favorites.
- Device & usage data — IP address, browser type, device identifiers, pages visited, and feature usage, collected through standard server logs and basic analytics.
- Support communications — messages you send to us, including the contents of those messages.
- Payment data — handled by Paddle (see Section 5). We receive only the information needed to provision your subscription (customer ID, plan, status, period dates). We do not store full card numbers.
3. How we use personal data
- To create and operate your account and deliver the Service (contractual necessity).
- To match you with opponents, save games, and provide AI analysis (contractual necessity).
- To prevent fraud, abuse, and cheating, and to maintain security (legitimate interest).
- To improve the Service, debug issues, and develop new features (legitimate interest).
- To send service-related communications such as receipts and security alerts (contractual necessity / legal obligation).
- To comply with legal obligations such as tax and accounting requirements.
4. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
We rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR / UK GDPR: performance of a contract, legitimate interests (with appropriate balancing), compliance with a legal obligation, and, where required, your consent.
5. Categories of recipients
- Hosting and infrastructure providers — to run the Service (databases, application hosting, content delivery).
- Paddle.com Inc. — our Merchant of Record. Paddle handles checkout, payments, subscription management, tax compliance, invoicing, refunds, and chargebacks. See Paddle's privacy policy.
- AI providers — for coaching, hints, and move analysis, processed by our model provider on our behalf.
- Professional advisers — legal, accounting, and similar advisers as needed.
- Authorities — when required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, or property.
6. International transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your home country, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.
7. Data retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes set out above. Account, game, and chat data are kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to support reactivation, security, dispute resolution, and legal obligations. Server logs are typically rotated within 90 days. You can request deletion at any time (see Section 9).
8. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures including encryption in transit, access controls, audit logging, and least-privilege practices. No system is perfectly secure, and you are responsible for keeping your password and devices safe.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, port, or object to processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent or lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, contact us via the in-app support channel. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (typically within 30 days).
10. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality (authentication, session) and basic, privacy-respecting analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may break parts of the Service.
11. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes
We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service.
